SerialView is an asynchronous protocol analyzer that allows network managers, field engineers and developers to capture and decode asynchronous PPP (Point to Point Protocol) or SLIP (Serial Line IP) traffic on a standard PC. SerialView, run on a standard PC or notebook computer with two serial ports, is a complete real time asynchronous network monitor and protocol analyzer.
The SerialView cable captures data on an RS‑232 connection between a network host and modem then provides it to the PC via two serial ports on the PC. Data from both sides of the connection are recorded simultaneously providing a full view of the network interactions. SerialView then filters, collects, decodes and displays the packets.
SerialView is ideal for network engineers creating and testing new protocols and applications, including embedded systems and client/server applications. For applications requiring proprietary or custom protocol decoders SerialView allows users to independently develop their own protocol decoders (using Microsoft C compiler) which are then automatically loaded when SerialView starts.
Designed for portability, SerialView provides the network professional with an inexpensive tool to capture and analyze serial network traffic in the office, the lab or in the field.
